Starting
with the basics is always a great way to kick off any endeavor, so why should
it not be the same for this program. By using certain online research
techniques, one’s scope of information is exponentially increased if performed
correctly. Personally, I have always been of the opinion that the best place to
start a project is by conducting research; even if it is a new project or
concept. Taking the market’s temperature and getting a read on what is going on
out there can always be helpful even if it is not in a direct manner. With that
said, more and more companies are taking to social media as a form of bridging
the gap of communication between them and their customers. Knowing how to
properly use forums such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and RSS (Real Simple
Syndication) feeds, means that one knows how to properly engage the consumer
base. Even though many of these social sites may not directly sell anything to
the public, they are no less important than traditional retail websites.
Information is easy to acquire nowadays, that without an online presence any
serious company looking to outperform others in its class needs to seriously
think about how they are going to show their presence throughout the Internet.
Of course, the other side of searching for information
is, knowing how to communicate said information after one has acquired it.
Having proper online etiquette is the foundation for getting the lines of
communication open between businesses, partners, employees, and customers.
Professionalism is key in this aspect of doing business; one must sound as good
as they perform, and of course vice versa. From inter-office memos to sending
consumers updates on company information via social media, not one is more
important that the other. The skill-set this class helped polish were improving
one’s analytical skills, setting the bar for what professionalism demands in
the workplace, and being aware of how to best reach the consumer market in this
digital world we live in today. Media Literacy & Research Methodologies was
a great start to a wonderful year in the Entertainment Business Masters program
at Full Sail University.
